Oregon State 74, Mississippi Valley State 50: Gary Payton II recorded career highs with 24 points and 16 rebounds as the Beavers rolled past the visiting Delta Devils.

Payton was 8-of-12 from the field, including 3-of-3 from 3-point range, and added four steals as Oregon State (4-2) ended a two-game skid while holding the Delta Devils to 29.5 percent shooting. Langston Morris-Walker and Daniel Gomis scored 11 points apiece and Victor Robbins collected nine points and seven rebounds.

Jordan Washington was 5-of-9 from 3-point range and scored 17 points for Mississippi Valley State (1-7), which was outrebounded 53-36 and missed 18-of-26 shots from 3-point range. DeAngelo Priar added 14 points for the Delta Devils, who trailed by as many as 24 midway through the second half.

Payton had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the first half to help give the Beavers a 40-28 advantage at the break. Payton, who recorded his second consecutive double-double, opened the second half with five straight points and threw down a one-handed dunk with just under 12 minutes left to put the Beavers ahead 55-31.

Washington made a 3-pointer with 4:42 left to cut the deficit to 65-48 before Oregon State closed the game on a 9-2 run. Gomis set a career high in scoring and tied his career high with five blocks for the Beavers, who forced 17 turnovers.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Mississippi Valley State is in the midst of playing nine of its first 10 games on the road. … Payton came within four rebounds of becoming the first Oregon State player since Sam Whitehead in 1971 to record 20 points and 20 rebounds. … The Beavers improved to 9-1 all-time against current members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
