Maryland 95, Virginia Military Institute 77: Richaud Pack poured in a season-high 22 points as the Terrapins pulled away in the second half to defeat the visiting Keydets.

Jake Layman recorded 19 points and nine rebounds while freshmen Melo Trimble (6-of-6 from the field) and Dion Wiley each scored 19 for Maryland (7-0). Michal Cekovsky added 10 points off the bench for the Terrapins, who are off to their best start to a season since 2006-07 when they were 8-0.

Craig Hinton led the way with 23 points, draining 6-of-6 from 3-point range, as VMI (2-4) lost its third straight contest. QJ Peterson registered 18 points and nine boards while Tim Marshall added 14 for the Keydets, who turned the ball over 18 times and launched 42 shots from 3-point range – making 12.

Maryland was ahead by two before Wiley scored six straight to ignite a 13-0 run that was capped by a 3-pointer from Layman, pushing the lead to 68-53 with just over 12 minutes left. Consecutive baskets by Wiley and Pack extended the lead to 77-59 and VMI could not get closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

Hinton scored 15 while sinking four 3-pointers and the Keydets made 8-of-22 overall from behind the arc in the first half to lead by as many as three. The Terrapins responded by scoring 10 of the final 13 points in the opening 20 minutes – eight by Pack – to edge in front 49-45 at intermission.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Terrapins lead the series 43-10 and have won the last eight meetings. … It was Maryland’s second game without standout senior G Dez Wells, who underwent surgery on his right wrist Friday and will be out at least four weeks. …The Terrapins blocked 10 shots, led by three each from Cekovsky and Damonte Dodd.
