USC 66, New Mexico 54: Darion Clark scored 12 points and Elijah Stewart added 11 as the visiting Trojans defeated the cold-shooting Lobos.

The game was not esthetically pleasing offensively as both teams shot below 40 percent from the field, but Stewart went 4-of-8 and Clark was 5-for-9. Nikola Jovanovic scored 10 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds – including seven offensive boards – while Julian Jacobs contributed 10 points and four assists for USC (4-3), who won back-to-back games for the first time this season.

Devon Williams finished with personal bests of 15 points and 10 rebounds while fellow sophomore Obij Aget tallied career-highs of 11 points and 10 boards for the Lobos (3-3). New Mexico, playing without leading scorer Cullen Neal (ankle), shot a dismal 3-for-24 from 3-point range and second-leading scorer Hugh Greenwood shot an icy 0-for-11 from the floor, including 0-for-9 beyond the arc.

Aget tied the game at 47-47 with 7:39 remaining, but New Mexico didn’t score another field goal until Tim Jacobs made a layup with 1:17 left. The Trojans didn’t pull away from the Lobos, who shot 23-for-60 from the floor, but their 62-52 edge at that point was comfortable since New Mexico finished 18-for-55.

USC took a 12-4 lead after a 3-pointer by Stewart, but Williams countered with a jumper and converted a dunk off a feed by Aget to get New Mexico back into the game. The Trojans led 26-17 when Joe Furstinger jump-started a 10-0 spurt and the Lobos took their first lead on a layup by Williams.

GAME NOTEBOOK: New Mexico G Xavier Adams earned his first start and finished with four points. … Six players combined to block eight shots for New Mexico with Aget and Furstinger leading the way with two each. … Both teams combined to shoot 7-for-41 from long range.
