Marquette 62, NJIT 57: Duane Wilson had a three-point play and added two more free throws in the final 1:17 as the Golden Eagles posted a tight victory over the visiting Highlanders.

Juan Anderson had 20 points and nine rebounds while shooting 6-of-9 from the floor and 8-of-13 from the line as Marquette (2-2) snapped a two-game losing streak. Wilson had 18 points and Steve Taylor Jr. added 12 rebounds.

Damon Lynn led NJIT (1-4) with 13 points, but he was just 4-of-20 from the field, including 3-of-12 from 3-point range. Daquan Holiday had 12 points and Ky Howard added nine rebounds.

Neither team led by more than three points in the second half until Marquette went on an 11-2 run to lead 50-44 with 6:41 left. NJIT pulled within 56-55 on two Howard free throws at 1:32, but that’s as close as the Highlanders would get.

Ahead 14-12, Lynn and Rob Ukawuba combined to score the Highlanders' final 16 points for a 30-28 lead at intermission. Anderson was 4-for-4 for nine points in the half, while Jajuan Johnson nailed a 3-pointer with one second remaining to pull the Golden Eagles within two points.

GAME NOTEBOOK: NJIT entered the game shooting 38 percent from the floor but hit 61 percent (11-of-18) of its shots in the first half Monday. … Both teams struggled with their shooting as Marquette shot 35.3 percent and NJIT 37.5 percent from the field for the game. … Despite not having a player taller than 6-7, the Golden Eagles were only outrebounded 37-36.
