Baylor 60, Prairie View A&M 45:
Taurean Prince scored a season-high 15 points off the bench while Rico Gathers added 12 points and 13 rebounds as the Bears rolled past the visiting Panthers.

Al Freeman scored eight points while Kenny Chery and Jonathan Motley chipped in six apiece for Baylor (3-0), which improved to 13-0 all-time against Prairie View A&M (0-4) and 45-0 against Southwestern Athletic Conference opponents. Royce O’Neale had 10 rebounds to join Gathers in double figures as the Bears enjoyed a 41-26 advantage on the boards.

For Prairie View, which played without leading scorer Montrael Scott and has suffered three of its four losses against Big 12 opponents, John Brisco and Karim York led the way with 13 points apiece. The Panthers shot 5-of-21 from 3-point range and was only 2-of-7 from the free-throw line as Scott – a senior guard who averaged 15 points over the Panthers’ first three games – missed the contest for unspecified reasons.

Prairie View, which trailed 37-22 at halftime, got a 3-point jumper from York to open the second-half scoring but that was as close as the Panthers could get. Gathers hit one of two free throws with a little more than four minutes remaining to give Baylor its largest lead at 57-38.

The Bears started slow, hitting only one of their first seven shots as the Panthers took a 6-2 lead. But a Gathers’ jumper gave Baylor its first lead at 10-8, and the Bears – behind Prince’s eight points off the bench – outscored the visitors 27-14 the rest of the half to take the 15-point advantage into intermission.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Baylor is off to a 3-0 start for the eighth straight season. … The Bears are 24-4 against in-state opponents since the start of the 2011-12 season. … Baylor’s average margin of victory in its 13 wins over Prairie View is 30.1 points.
