No. 10 Texas 71, No. 25 Iowa 57: Jonathan Holmes scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half as the Longhorns topped the Hawkeyes at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

In the first semifinal of the 2K Classic, Holmes and Isaiah Taylor, who scored 11 of his 15 points after halftime, propelled Texas (3-0) to the victory following a six-point halftime deficit. Javan Felix chipped in 11 points in a reserve role for the Longhorns, who outscored the Hawkeyes 69-44 after trailing 13-2 early on.

Connor Lammert had a team-high eight rebounds for Texas, which will face either California in Friday's 2K Classic championship game. Aaron White scored 23 points and Adam Woodbury added 10 and eight rebounds to pace the Hawkeyes (2-1), who shot 29.6 percent from the field.

An ugly first half ended with as many combined turnovers (17) as field goals and both teams shooting less than 33 percent. White was one of the few efficient players in the opening 20 minutes, scoring 11 first-half points as the Hawkeyes led 30-24 at the break.

After scoring the final four points of the first half, Texas scored 19 of the first 26 points in the second half to take control. Holmes had the first eight Longhorns points in the second half before adding a 3-pointer and a layup during a 13-0 run that turned a 43-43 tie into a comfortable margin for Texas.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The five starters for Texas totaled five assists. ... The Hawkeyes' bench combined for 10 points on 3-of-17 shooting. ... Iowa C Gabriel Olaseni was given a flagrant-2 foul and ejected in the game's waning minutes after a hard foul on Taylor, who was seen holding his wrist on the bench.
