No. 9 Virginia 75, South Carolina State 55: Malcolm Brogdon recorded 11 of his 17 points during a pair of key runs as the host Cavaliers continued their strong start.

Justin Anderson also scored 17 while grabbing five rebounds and Anthony Gill added 11 points and eight boards as Virginia (3-0) outrebounded the Bulldogs 46-26. Darion Atkins registered eight points and seven rebounds while Mike Tobey contributed 10 points and five rebounds off the bench for the Cavaliers.

Karon Wright scored all 15 of his points in the second half for South Carolina State (0-3), which has lost its games by a combined 77 points and is getting outrebounded 146-94 this season. Gabe McCray and Greg Mortimer scored 12 and 10, respectively, off the bench for the Bulldogs.

Brogdon scored six points during a 14-0 run which gave Virginia a 33-14 lead with four minutes left in the first half. The spurt was highlighted by Gill's three-point play - off a defensive rebound and coast-to-coast drive - and his steal and ensuing dunk, which helped the Cavaliers take a 41-20 lead at intermission.

Wright sank four 3-pointers in the first 3:29 of the second half to trim the deficit to 48-32. Virginia responded with a 14-4 run - capped by Marial Shayok's 3-pointer - with Brogdon contributing five points, and the lead never got below the final margin.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Virginia has 24 blocks compared to its opponents' eight after recording six against South Carolina State. ... The Cavaliers are 24-0 all-time against the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, including 2-0 versus the Bulldogs. ... South Carolina State shot 36.4 percent from 3-point range and 32.8 overall.
