Arizona State 49, Bethune-Cookman 39: Eric Jacobsen had 13 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks as the Sun Devils took control early against the visiting Wildcats.

Jonathan Gilling added 11 points and six rebounds off the bench, the only other player to score in double figures for Arizona State (2-0). Bo Barnes scored eight points in a reserve role and Willie Atwood added six points and three steals for the Sun Devils.

Bethune-Cookman didn't have a player score in double figures as Quintin Brewer and Clemmye Owens finished with nine apiece with Brewer also grabbing nine rebounds. Troy Simmons added six points for the Wildcats (1-1).

Bethune-Cookman trailed by 19 at the half but couldn't take much advantage of a five-minute scoreless stretch by the Sun Devils to start the second. The Wildcats finally came alive after Arizona State went ahead by 17 with 4:10 left and cut the deficit to eight with 1:46 remaining but that was as close as they would get.

The Sun Devils scored the game’s first 10 points and Jacobsen and Gilling combined for 14 of the first 18 as Arizona State increased its early advantage to 18-2. Seven more unanswered points and the lead was 25-4 with 6:11 left in the first half.
