Maryland 93, Central Connecticut State 57: Dez Wells enjoyed another big offensive game with 27 points as the host Terrapins moved to 2-0 after a dominant performance against the Blue Devils.

Wells, who scored 18 points in Maryland’s season-opening victory over Wagner, was once again the catalyst for the Terrapins’ offense, which shot 10-of-23 from 3-point range. Jake Layman finished with 14 points while Melo Trimble and Dion Wiley each had 10 points and Damonte Dodd had four blocks.

Central Connecticut’s Matt Mobley proved to be a handful for Maryland with 24 points on 10-for-18 shooting, while Khalen Cumberlander added 11. Only a sophomore, Mobley scored a game-high 30 in the Blue Devils' season-opening loss to Fairfield and is averaging 27 points through two games.

Maryland led 38-26 at the half, then opened up a 54-34 lead after a 3-pointer by Wells with 15:37 remaining. The lead extended to 64-36 on another Wells 3-pointer with 12:43 left and the Terrapins began to cruise.

Led by Mobley, Central Connecticut (0-2) kept the game close in the first half and trailed by just 12 at intermission. But while the Blue Devils had 12 assists and eight turnovers against Fairfield, they had just four assists and 16 turnovers in this one, including seven by Mobley.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Blue Devils played without Kyle Vinales, their leading scorer from last season, who is suspended indefinitely after being charged with assault and disorderly conduct. … The Terrapins bench outscored the Blue Devils reserves, 27-16. … Maryland didn’t commit a turnover in the second half until the 7:51 mark.
