Georgetown 83, St. Francis (N.Y.) 62: Freshman L.J. Peak scored 23 points in his collegiate debut while making all nine of his shots from the field as the host Hoyas pulled away from the Terriers in the opener for both teams.

Jabril Trawick contributed 11 points while 6-10 center Joshua Smith registered 10 for Georgetown, which shot 52.5 percent from the field. Aaron Bowen and Big East preseason Player of the Year D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera each added eight points for the Hoyas.

Brent Jones led the way with 13 points for St. Francis, which was the picked first in Northeast Conference’s preseason coaches poll. Antonio Jenifer added 11 points for the Terriers, who shot 32.4 percent from the field and made 6-of-19 from behind the 3-point arc.

St. Francis snuck in front 16-15 before Georgetown ran off 14 of the next 15 points – seven by Peak, including a 3-pointer – to take a 29-17 lead. The Hoyas pushed their lead as high as 14, but Jones had seven first-half points to help the Terriers battle back within 37-31 at intermission.

Georgetown recorded 12 of the first 15 points in the second half and Peak had six of them, including a two-hand fast break dunk to cap the run for a 49-34 lead. St. Francis, which beat Miami (Fla.) in its season opener last season, could get no closer than 11 the rest of the way.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Georgetown received 42 points in all from its freshman class, including seven from Tre Campbell while Paul White and Isaac Copeland had six each. … St. Francis won the only other meeting 77-52 during the 1953-54 season. … Georgetown improved to 46-12 all time against teams from the NEC.
