Marquette 79, Tenn-Martin 63
When: 9:30 PM ET, Friday, November 14, 2014
Where: BMO Harris Bradley Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Officials: # Jeff Anderson, # Tony Chiazza, # Wally Rutecki

Marquette 79, UT Martin 63: JaJuan Johnson had 20 points, four rebounds and four steals as the host Golden Eagles opened the Steve Wojciechowski era off in grand fashion, posting an easy win over the Skyhawks.

Juan Anderson added 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals, and Marquette (1-0) immediately showed some tendencies its new coach displayed when he was a tenacious guard at Duke in the 1990s. The Golden Eagles, previously coached by Buzz Williams from 2008-14, posted 19 assists and 12 steals while forcing a pesky UT Martin team into 19 turnovers.

Deville Smith had 12 points and three rebounds, and Twymond Howard added 11 and four for the Skyhawks, who trailed 38-30 at the half. UT Martin (0-1) outrebounded Marquette 34-25, but shot just 57.7 percent from the free-throw line in dropping the debut of its new coach, Heath Schroyer.

Point guard Matt Carlino, a transfer from BYU who has drawn comparisons to Wojciechowski, was sharp in his Marquette debut. He finished with 11 points, seven assists and a steal.

Sandy Cohen, a freshman forward and ballyhooed recruit who gets to play in his home state of Wisconsin, also got off to a decent start for Marquette. He went 3-of-5 from the field, drained two 3-pointers and finished with eight points, three rebounds and a steal.

GAME NOTEBOOK: This was the first of eight road contests in the Skyhawks’ first nine games. … Marquette snapped a four-game losing streak dating back to last season, when the Golden Eagles fell to Villanova, Providence, St. John's, and Xavier to end the year. … Carlino averaged 13.7 points, 4.3 assists and 3.4 rebounds in his final season at BYU.
