Texas Tech 71, Loyola Maryland 59: Freshman Norense Odiase had 16 points and 10 rebounds in his debut as the Red Raiders downed the visiting Greyhounds.

Devaugntah Williams added 13 points and Toddrick Gotcher went 4-of-4 for 10 points - both coming off the bench - for Texas Tech (1-0). Randy Onwuasor contributed eight points and had four of the Red Raiders' nine steals.

Andre Walker led Loyola Maryland (0-1) with 17 points off the bench and Eric Laster tallied 15 points and six rebounds. Tyler Hubbard finished with 12 points and Jarred Jones chipped in nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Greyhounds hit their first five 3-pointers and jumped to a 15-4 lead, but Onwuasor's layup off a steal tied the game at 26 with just over six minutes left in the first half. The Red Raiders made just one field goal the rest of the half - Keenan Evans' 3-pointer with just under 1 ½ minutes left - but led 35-33 at the break.

Williams had a layup and 3-pointer in the middle of a 14-5 run that gave the Red Raiders a 56-43 lead eight minutes into the second half. Odiase, who had a pair of buckets to open the second half, had a monster dunk late to cap his scoring.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Texas Tech's Tubby Smith and Louisville's Rick Pitino both defeated their sons Friday, giving fathers a 17-2 advantage in father-son coaching matchups. ... Texas Tech started three freshmen - Justin Gray, Odiase and Zach Smith - in a season opener for the first time in school history. ... The Red Raiders have won 15 straight home openers.
