Robert Morris 89, St. John's 78: Karvel Anderson scored a career-high 38 points, including a school-record nine 3-pointers, as the visiting Colonials upset the Red Storm in the first round of the NIT.

Lucky Jones added 25 points, nine rebounds and five assists for Robert Morris (22-13), which matched a program record with 16 3-pointers. Anthony Myers-Pate chipped in with 11 points to go along with a game-high eight assists for the eighth-seeded Colonials, who will play Belmont in the second round.

Jamal Branch led the way with 22 points and Max Hooper scored a career-high 18 off the bench for St. John's (20-13), which shot 37.2 percent from the field. JaKarr Sampson recorded 11 points, five rebounds and three assists, while Orlando Sanchez pulled down a team-high eight boards for the No. 1 seed Red Storm, who attempted only five free throws.

Robert Morris hit four consecutive 3-pointers as the Colonials opened the game on a 19-2 run and Stephan Hawkins nailed back-to-back jumpers before Jones hit another triple to stretch the lead to 25. Jones led all scorers with 20 points in the first half to help Robert Morris take a commanding 49-27 advantage at the break.

Anderson knocked down another 3-pointer to put the Colonials on top 74-51 before Hooper keyed a 15-0 run to trim the deficit to eight with 3:35 left. Anderson made his ninth triple to seal the win as Robert Morris upset a No. 1 seed in the NIT for the second straight year after beating Kentucky in 2013.
