Doug McDermott piled up 30 points and 12 rebounds as the Bluejays held off the Ragin’ Cajuns in the second round of the NCAA tournament in San Antonio.

Austin Chatman contributed 16 points and six assists for No. 3 seed Creighton (27-7), which will face No. 6 seed Baylor in the third round of West regional action on Sunday. Ethan Wragge scored all 12 of his points from beyond the arc as the Bluejays won an NCAA tournament game for the third straight season.

Elfrid Payton recorded 24 points and eight rebounds for No. 14 seed Louisiana-Lafayette (23-12). Shawn Long added 15 points and seven boards for the Ragin’ Cajuns, who shot 37.9 percent from the field.

Wragge hit a pair of 3-pointers and Grant Gibbs scored four points during a 10-0 run that gave Creighton a 56-50 lead with 8:28 to play. McDermott snapped a personal drought of over 14 minutes with a 3-pointer to make it 71-64 with 2:06 left and nailed a jumper on the next possession to help put it away.

The Bluejays took a six-point lead into the half and were up 46-41 after McDermott’s layup with just over 16 minutes remaining before missing four straight field-goal attempts and four free throws over the next 4 1/2 minutes. The Ragin’ Cajuns took advantage of the drought with a 9-0 run to grab a 50-46 lead with 12:14 to play.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Bluejays hit 51.9 percent from the floor to help make up for an 11-of-21 effort from the free-throw line. … Creighton has not advanced to the regional semifinals since 1974. … McDermott has scored at least 27 points in five straight games.
