LSU 68, Alabama 56: Shavon Coleman recorded 15 points, eight rebounds and three assists as the Tigers downed the Crimson Tide in the second round of the SEC tournament in Atlanta.

Tim Quarterman chipped in with a career-high 12 points while Johnny O'Bryant III added 11 points, six rebounds and four assists for LSU (19-12), which will face No. 2 seed Kentucky in Friday's quarterfinals. Jarell Martin tallied 10 points while Jordan Mickey pulled down a game-high 11 boards for the seventh-seeded Tigers, who shot 50 percent from the field.

Trevor Releford scored 11 points but finished just 2-of-11 from the field for Alabama (13-19), which went 6-of-21 from beyond the 3-point arc. Shannon Hale also added 11 points while Levi Randolph contributed 10 points and a team-high six rebounds for the 10th-seeded Crimson Tide.

Quarterman came off the bench to spark a 13-0 spurt to put LSU on top by 10 and the Tigers held Alabama to 37 percent shooting in the first half to take a 35-24 lead into the break. Releford made a pair of free throws to trim the deficit to six early in the second stanza before Mickey's driving layup put the Tigers up 49-37.

The Crimson Tide closed the gap to single digits before Quarterman nailed his second triple of the game to restore LSU's 12-point cushion with just over 10 minutes remaining. Coleman and Andre Stringer hit back-to-back 3-pointers to stretch the Tigers' lead to 65-50 and they were never threatened the rest of the way.

GAME NOTEBOOK: LSU started off 6-of-11 from 3-point land before finishing 11-of-22. … Alabama went just 14-of-26 from the free throw line. … The Tigers dished out 19 assists and improved to 13-2 when recording 15 or more this season.
