No. 14 Wisconsin 71, Penn State 66: Josh Gasser scored 15 points and Ben Brust added 14 as the visiting Badgers held off the Nittany Lions.

Traevon Jackson added 13 points for Wisconsin (24-5, 11-5 Big Ten), which picked up its seventh straight win and moved into a tie for second place in the Big Ten with Michigan State. Frank Kaminsky struggled to nine points on 3-of-10 shooting and collected six rebounds.

D.J. Newbill scored 23 points to lead Penn State (14-15, 5-11). Tim Frazier and Ross Travis scored 10 points apiece and Brandon Taylor grabbed 10 rebounds for the Nittany Lions.

Frazier’s layup pulled Penn State within 53-51 with 8:30 left, but Brust responded with a 3-pointer and the Badgers stretched it to 66-59 when Jackson ended a field goal drought of over seven minutes on a jumper with 1:24 to play. Frazier led a 5-0 run to cut it to 66-64 with 18 seconds remaining, but Jackson hit four free throws to put it away.

Brust capped a 9-0 burst in the first half that put Wisconsin on top 17-9. Gasser’s 3-pointer gave the Badgers a nine-point lead before they settled for a 31-27 gap at the half.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Nittany Lions went 1-of-13 from 3-point range while Wisconsin hit 8-of-24 from beyond the arc. … Frazier grabbed three rebounds to give him 500 for his career, making him the second player in Big Ten history with at least 1,000 points, 600 assists and 500 rebounds (Jeff Horner, Iowa 2003-06). … The Badgers have won five straight on the road.
