Blake Hinson didn't miss from 3-point range and scored 24 points to help Pittsburgh snap No. 7 Duke's eight-game winning streak with an 80-76 ACC upset Saturday at Durham, N.C.
In Pitt's first win at Cameron Indoor Stadium since 1979, Hinson was 7-for-7 from beyond the arc and hit one with 6:35 remaining to put the Panthers (11-7, 2-5 ACC) up for good at 67-65.
Kyle Filipowski's 3-pointer got Duke (13-4, 4-2) as close as 77-75 with 10 seconds to play but the Panthers held on.
Jaland Lowe scored 17 points and Ishmael Leggett contributed 11 for Pitt, which avenged a 75-53 loss to Duke on Jan. 9 and snapped a two-game losing streak.
Carlton Carrington did not score in Pitt's previous game against Syracuse but finished with nine on Saturday, including a 3-pointer that put Pitt up 72-67 with 3:55 left.
Duke lost despite having four players in double figures. Jared McCain led the Blue Devils with 20 points and Filipowksi scored 19 points. Caleb Foster chipped in 16 and Tyrese Proctor added 11.
Hinson opened the second half knocking down a 3-pointer that put the Panthers up 41-34.
This was a night where the teams combined for 21 3-pointers, including back-to-back shots from distance by Hinson, who stretched the Pitt lead to 55-50 with 12:49 to play.
McCain tied the score at 55-55 with a 3-pointer at the 10:48 mark.
It was a back-and-forth battle from there.
The Panthers opened the game on a 9-0 run highlighted by a 3-pointer from Hinson.
Filipowski ended Duke's scoring drought with a couple of free throws at the 17:22 mark, and the Blue Devils finally hit their first shot from the field when Foster connected on a 3-pointer with 16:05 to play. Duke had missed its first five shots from the floor.
The Blue Devils buried three consecutive 3-pointers, the last by Proctor, to close within 21-19 just past the midway point of the first half.
Duke took its first lead at 26-23 with 7:16 remaining on a 3-pointer by McCain.
With 6:14 left, Pitt regained the lead at 27-26 on a Carrington jumper and led 38-34 at the half.
