Justin Lewis scored 21 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 13 seconds remaining, to lift visiting Marquette past No. 11 Villanova, 57-54, on Wednesday.

Lewis hit five treys, Greg Elliott added 14 points and Darryl Morsell had 10 for the Golden Eagles (13-6, 5-3 Big East), who won their fifth in a row.

Marquette ended the game on a 7-0 run.

Eric Dixon tied his career high with 15 points, Justin Moore added 13, Collin Gillespie had 10 and Jermaine Samuels swept 10 rebounds for Villanova (13-5, 6-2), which had its six-game winning streak snapped.

Moore missed a potential game-tying trey with about seven seconds left.

Marquette jumped out to a quick 15-9 lead with 12:48 remaining in the first half.

Villanova struggled offensively and missed five straight shots as the Golden Eagles pulled ahead.

The Wildcats tightened defensively and eventually went ahead 29-25.

But Marquette scored the final five points and took a 30-29 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Golden Eagles held a slim 36-33 lead early in the second half.

But Villanova responded with a 12-0 run capped by a 3-pointer from Moore to take a 45-36 advantage with 10:53 left. Marquette missed 10 of its first 12 shots in the second half before Elliott hit a trey to close within six.

David Joplin knocked down a trey for the Golden Eagles on their next possession and the deficit was three.

Caleb Daniels responded with a 3-pointer and Villanova led 48-42 with 9:01 remaining.

Elliott drove to the basket and scored with 6:08 left and Marquette sliced within 51-47.

While Villanova went scoreless for nearly five minutes, the Golden Eagles capitalized as Elliott hit another trey to cut the deficit to one, 51-50.

Gillespie, who had struggled offensively, converted a key three-point play for a 54-50 lead with 2:19 left.

Lewis scored on consecutive possessions and Marquette tied the game at 54 with 1:11 to go.
