Trevion Williams posted 22 points and 12 rebounds as No. 1 Purdue made a big comeback in regulation and defeated North Carolina State 82-72 in overtime Sunday as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Invitational in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Purdue (9-1) likely will lose its No. 1 rating when the new poll comes out Monday because of its loss Thursday night on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer at Rutgers.

NC State (7-3) was trying for its first win over a No. 1-ranked team since it beat Duke in January 2013.

Purdue, which never led until overtime, received 22 points from Jaden Ivey and 12 from Sasha Stefanovic. Williams supplied nine assists.

For NC State, Terquavion Smith scored 21 points, Dereon Seabron had 18, and Cam Hayes and Jericole Hellems added 12 apiece.

In regulation, Williams converted a 3-point play with 51 seconds left to pull the Boilermakers even at 64-64. Seabron scored with 31 seconds left before Stefanovic countered with a layup for Purdue. Each team had a turnover in the five final seconds of regulation.

NC State was up 58-46 with 6:10 left in regulation, but the Boilermakers were within 62-56 at the 3:33 mark.

Smith scored nine points in barely more than three minutes to begin the second half as the Wolfpack stretched their edge to 44-32. Purdue threatened, but Hellems hit consecutive 3s as part of an 8-0 spurt as the lead grew to 54-41.

NC State held a 31-27 lead at the break.

Through the first 15 minutes, the only points from Purdue's starters were seven by Zach Edey.

NC State had a scoring drought of more than three minutes, but the Wolfpack maintained the lead.

Ivey scored on dunks on consecutive possessions before the only points for the Wolfpack in the last one-plus minutes came on four Seabron free throws.

Purdue, which was 2-for-12 on 3s in the opening half, had six offensive rebounds in the first half compared with one for NC State.
