Gabe Brown scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Michigan State bounced back from an opening-night loss to pound Western Michigan 90-46 in East Lansing on Friday.

Joey Hauser supplied 12 points, 12 rebounds and four assists for the Spartans, who lost their first game to No. 3 Kansas 87-74 on Tuesday. Marcus Bingham Jr. had 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocks, while Jaden Akins and Tyson Walker added nine points apiece.

Mack Smith had 13 points to lead the Broncos (1-1). Markeese Hastings added 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.

The Spartans shot 51.5 percent from the field while holding the Broncos to 26.5 percent shooting. The Spartans also dominated on the boards with a 58-28 advantage. They outscored Western Michigan 50-24 in the lane.

One of Western Michigan's starters, B. Artis White, sustained a leg injury in the early going and did not return.

The Spartans pulled away to a 46-25 lead by halftime. Michigan State shot 55.2 percent during the first 20 minutes and crushed Western Michigan on the boards 30-11. The Broncos were held to 27 percent shooting.

Western Michigan trailed by just a point nine minutes into the contest. A 3-pointer by Hauser sparked a 14-2 run that gave the Spartans a 32-19 lead. Max Christie also drained a 3-pointer during that span.

Julius Marble II's putback with three minutes left in the half made it 39-23. Brown had four points late in the half and Walker made a 3-pointer with three seconds left.

A three-point play by Brown after an offensive rebound increased the Spartans' advantage to 26 less than two minutes into the second half.

Brown pushed the lead past 30 points at 62-31 when he made a steal and converted a fastbreak layup.

An inside basket by Hauser with 7:48 left increased Michigan State's advantage to 40 points.
