Joel Brown scored 12 points, all in the second half, including two crucial 3-pointers in the final 3:32, as host Cal rallied to turn back the Seattle Redhawks 70-65 in their nonconference game Tuesday in Berkeley.

Ryan Betley tallied 17 points, including three 3-pointers, for the Golden Bears (5-4), who spent the first 33 minutes trying to overcome the Redhawks (5-5).

Kuany Kuany added 11 points for Cal, which played its second straight game without leading scorers Matt Bradley (ankle) and Grant Anticevich (appendectomy). Andre Kelly added eight points and 11 rebounds.

Riley Grigsby led Seattle with 20 points and added eight rebounds, while Darrion Trammell finished with 15 points, eight assists, five rebounds and three steals. Emeka Udenyi notched 14 points, 10 rebounds and three assists.

Cal took its first lead on a 3-pointer by Betley with 7:17 to play, and after Seattle twice went back in front, Brown's 3-pointer as the shot clock wound down put Cal up 60-59 with 3:32 left. Brown hit another bomb with 2:04 to play to extend the margin to four, and the Golden Bears pushed the lead to 67-59 with 31 seconds left.

The Golden Bears shot 47.2 percent from the floor, including 31.6 percent on 3-pointers, while the Redhawks finished at 45 percent and 21.7 percent.

Trammell and Udenyi led the way as the Redhawks led the entire first half. Trammell scored 11 points, including seven during a 9-2 run that gave Seattle its largest lead of the half, 22-11, with 10:30 left.

Two of Trammell's baskets came on layups after he made steals at the other end. He finished the half with five assists, four rebounds and three steals.

Udenyi, who began the day averaging 7.6 points per game, scored 10 on 5 of 6 shooting in the half and added six rebounds and three assists.

The Redhawks shot 47.1 percent for the half, but only 25 percent (3 of 12) on 3-pointers. The Golden Bears finished at 44.8 percent from the field and made only 1 of 8 from long range.

Kuany led Cal with eight points in the half, and Betley added seven. Kelly tallied seven rebounds.

The Bears twice whittled their deficit to four points, including inside the half's last 64 seconds, as Kuany hit a layup and Kelly turned an up-and-under layup into a three-point play to trail 37-33 at the break.
