Jared Rhoden scored 20 points as Seton Hall endured one of its worst offensive showing of the season but still held off visiting Marquette 57-51 Sunday afternoon in Newark, N.J.

The Pirates (12-8, 9-5 Big East) won their third straight game on a day when they finished with their second-lowest point total of the season and shot 37 percent, their second-worst percentage of the season.

Rhoden posted his fourth 20-point game of the season. He shot 7-of-17 and also collected seven rebounds and four assists.

Sandro Mamukelashvili added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Pirates. He also committed six of Seton Hall's 15 turnovers and shot 4 of 12 from the field.

Shavar Reynolds contributed 10 points while playing through foul trouble for the Pirates, who were returning from their fourth layoff this season of at least six days.

Marquette (9-12, 5-10) lost for the sixth time in seven games since Jan. 16 and Sunday was their fifth single-digit loss of the skid.

D.J. Carton scored 16 points for the Golden Eagles, who shot a season-low 30 percent and made just three of 25 3-point tries. Theo John added 14 and Koby McEwen finished with 11. Leading scorer Dawson Garcia was held scoreless after scoring a career-best 28 points in Wednesday's loss at Villanova.

A sloppy opening half featured a combined 18 turnovers and a combined 3 of 20 from behind the arc, but Seton Hall held a 26-20 lead after a basket by Mamukelashvili with five seconds remaining.

The Pirates took their first double-digit lead at 33-22 on two free throws by Rhoden two minutes into the second half but Marquette was within 36-32 on Carton's reverse layup with 10:56 remaining.

Rhoden's 3-pointer made it 41-32 with 9:36 remaining but Marquette reduced the lead to 45-40 on a 3-pointer by Carton with 5:12 left, ending a streak of 16 straight missed 3-point tries.

The Eagles trailed 49-47 after John rebounded a missed 3-pointer by Jamal Cain with 49 seconds left and threw down a dunk. Marquette missed two 3-pointers in a span of eight seconds while trailing by four and Seton Hall iced the game with six free throws in the final 26 seconds.
