Andre Kelly scored seven of his 11 points in a 16-0 first-half flurry that helped California rebound from a season-opening loss with an 86-61 thrashing of Northwest University of Washington in a nonconference game in Corvallis Ore., on Thursday afternoon.

Ryan Betley bombed in three 3-pointers en route to a game-high 14 points for the Golden Bears (1-1), who lost their opener Wednesday to host Oregon State.

Dejwan Walker paced Northwest (0-1), an NAIA school that was making its season debut, with 12 points.

The Eagles hung within 13-7 in the sixth minute of the game after a jumper by J.R. Delgado before Cal took command with its big run.

Kelly buried a pair of jumpers and three free throws in the burst, while Betley connected on one of his 3-pointers, as the Golden Bears built a 29-7 lead with 6:53 left in the half.

With Kelly scoring nine points, Cal led 41-21 at halftime and was never seriously threatened in the second period.

Matt Bradley added 11 points, while Joel Brown and Makale Foreman had 10 apiece for the Golden Bears, who shot 50.8 percent from the field one day after struggling to 39.7 percent in their 71-63 loss to Oregon State.

Betley also all rebounders with nine, while Foreman accumulated a game-high six assists.

Cacoa Chatman and Pa'Treon Lee went for 10 points apiece for Northwest, which was playing a Pac-12 Conference team for the first time in its history.

Northwest shot just 37.9 percent for the game, but did manage to outscore the Golden Bears from beyond the 3-point arc with seven. Cal made six.

Walker was Northwest's leading rebounder with six.

The Eagles will get a second shot at a first-ever win over a Pac-12 team when they complete the three-team, three-day event with a matchup against Oregon State on Friday.
