Brandon Newman scored a game-high 21 points and Sasha Stefanovic made six of Purdue's 17 3-pointers Tuesday as the Boilermakers routed visiting Oakland 93-50 in a nonconference mismatch.

Stefanovic finished with 20 points and seven assists for Purdue (2-1), which went 17 of 32 from the 3-point line and shot 55 percent for the day. The Boilermakers drew 27 assists on 33 made buckets, with three players chalking up at least six helpers.

Jalen Moore scored 14 points and dished out seven assists for the Golden Grizzles (0-5), which were playing their fifth game in seven days. Oakland converted just 33.3 percent of its field goal attempts and was stomped on the boards 40-21.

Despite the final margin, the game was actually close for the first 10 minutes. In fact, the Grizzlies owned a 17-16 edge with 10:20 left in the half when Moore fed Zion Young for a 3-pointer. The day's remainder was all Purdue.

Beginning with a Stefanovic 3-pointer, the Boilermakers ripped off the next 12 points to take a 28-17 advantage after Newman's 3-point play at the 8:10 mark. After Yusuf Jihad offered Oakland a bit of traction with a 3-pointer, Purdue rattled off seven more points in a row.

Aaron Wheeler's stickback with 6:23 left opened up the lead to 35-20 and forced the Grizzlies to burn a timeout. Not that it did them much good. The Boilermakers expanded the advantage to 49-27 at halftime, courtesy of a 14-3 run that Newman finished with a jumper in the final 30 seconds.

Things only got much more lopsided after intermission. The lead gradually grew from 22 to 32 before eight minutes expired in the second half as another Stefanovic 3-pointer made it 70-38. Purdue expanded the lead to a whopping 46 points in the final 90 seconds.

Zach Edey, a 7-4 freshman, contributed 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Boilermakers. Purdue cut its turnovers down from 22 in an 81-70 loss to Clemson Thursday night to 12 in this one.
