Carlik Jones scored 25 points and Louisville held off Duke for an 80-73 overtime victory Saturday night, ending a four-game winning streak for the host Blue Devils at Durham, N.C.
Jae'Lyn Withers had 16 points and Samuell Williamson tacked on 14 points and 12 rebounds for Louisville (13-5, 8-4 Atlantic Coast Conference).
Matthew Hurt poured in a career-high 37 points for Duke (11-9, 9-7). The sophomore forward shot 15 of 21 from the field. Teammate Wendell Moore Jr. added 13 points, while Mark Williams and DJ Steward each had eight points.
The Cardinals scored on the first possession of overtime as Quinn Slazinski made a 3-pointer on his only shot from the field in the game. Louisville did not give up the lead the rest of the way.
In regulation, Louisville took a 58-57 lead on Williamson's layup with 5:18 to play and never relinquished that advantage until Moore's two free throws at the 36-second mark put Duke on top at 65-64 after Louisville guard David Johnson fouled out.
Jones made the first of two free throws with 13 seconds to play. The Cardinals rebounded the misfire, but Jones did not connect on a potential game-winning jumper.
Duke's NCAA Tournament hopes are in jeopardy and the Blue Devils will head into the final week of the regular season with games at Georgia Tech and North Carolina.
Louisville's 12-point lead early in the second half evaporated in a 6 1/2-minute span as Duke pulled even at 44-44 with more than 12 minutes remaining. The Blue Devils ended up going ahead by three points before the Cardinals responded.
Williamson scored six straight of his team's points as Louisville grabbed a 60-57 edge. Hurt had 14 consecutive Duke points when the score was 60-58.
Louisville dominated the rebounding for a large chunk of the game. The Cardinals finished with a 41-33 edge on the boards, pulling in 15 offensive rebounds.
Duke shot 4 of 21 on 3-pointers, but countered that by going 22-for-37 on 2-point shots.
Hurt, who scored 10 of Duke's first 15 points, was the only Blue Devils player with a double-digit point total in regulation. He fouled out with 17 seconds left in overtime.
Louisville, which was a week removed from a blowout loss at North Carolina as it came off a three-week hiatus, held a 36-26 halftime edge. The Cardinals got back on track by defeating Notre Dame on Tuesday.
