Shakur Juiston's 17 points and 10 rebounds led No. 14 Oregon to an 82-74 victory over No. 13 Memphis on Tuesday night in the opening game of the Phil Knight Invitational in Portland, Ore.
Payton Pritchard had 14 points, Anthony Mathis added 12 points and Will Richardson chipped in 10, including a key 3-pointer with 3:32 to play to give the Ducks (3-0) a 74-67 lead.
Guard Lester Quinones led the Tigers (2-1) with 16 points. Freshman James Wiseman, who played after being granted a court injunction despite being ruled ineligible by the NCAA, was saddled with foul trouble early. The Tigers' top recruit, regarded as the No. 1 freshman in the nation, finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Oregon led by as much as 12 first half, 23-11 on a Chris Duarte layup. But Duarte, the 2019 national junior college player of year, had to leave the game with 5:12 left in the first half after he banged knees with Memphis forward Precious Achiuwa.
Duarte was helped off the court and put no weight on his knee. He did return to the Oregon bench, where he watched the final minutes.
Memphis went on 9-0 run to take a 31-30 lead on a Quinones layup at the 3:59 mark. But Oregon took a 41-35 lead into halftime.
The Tigers went on an 11-2 run to turn a 46-38 deficit into a 49-48 lead early in the second half, with Quinones hitting a 3-pointer for the lead.
The Ducks again responded and equaled their largest lead of the game, 12 points, when Richardson sank two free throws with 9:14 left to make is 65-53. The Tigers scored the next eight points.
Pritchard's deep 3 with 1:32 left made it 77-69 Oregon, and then at the other end, the senior slapped at the ball and forced Wiseman into a traveling violation.
Oregon's Francis Okoro, a few days removed from being struck by a car and hospitalized, had seven points and nine rebounds in 25 minutes.
