When: 9:00 PM ET, Wednesday, January 8, 2020
Where: Arena-Auditorium, Laramie, Wyoming
Officials: # Kelly Pfeifer, # Keith Kimble, # Bill Staffen

Malachi Flynn scored 19 points, Yanni Wetzell added 17 points without missing a field-goal attempt, and No. 7-ranked San Diego State continued its undefeated start with a 72-52 rout of Wyoming at Arena-Auditorium in Laramie, Wyo., on Wednesday.

San Diego State (16-0, 5-0 Mountain West Conference) used a 14-2 run late in the first half that gave it a double-digit cushion it held most of the final 20 minutes.

The Aztecs' lead swelled to as many as 23 points after intermission. Whenever Wyoming would whittle down the gap, San Diego State responded with mini-runs to push the advantage back to 17-plus points.

With the win, the Aztecs pulled to just four games shy of matching the program's all-time best start, a 20-0 run to begin the 2010-11 season. That team was headlined by current NBA star Kawhi Leonard.

Wyoming (5-12, 0-5) could not contain San Diego State's offense, which shot 52.1 percent from the floor. The Aztecs' average lingered close to 60 percent until after the final media timeout of the evening, when the outcome was well in hand.

Wetzell's perfect shooting set the pace, while Jordan Schakel knocked down 3 of 6 from 3-point range to finish with 11 points. Matt Mitchell, making his third consecutive start, compensated for his 1-of-7 shooting night by grabbing a game-high eight rebounds.

In addition to his game high in scoring, Flynn dished out four assists and came away with three steals. K.J. Feagin chipped in seven points.

Hunter Maldonado led Wyoming with 18 points, and Hunter Thompson added 15 points, but no other Cowboy scored more than Kenny Foster's seven. Wyoming got just seven points from its bench.

Wyoming struggled shooting from beyond the 3-point arc, going 5 of 22.

While the Cowboys did not commit a bevy of turnovers -- the 11 were fewer than their season average of 13.8 coming in -- San Diego State made sure Wyoming paid when they did turn it over with 16 points.
