Miles McBride scored 22 points on 8 of 11 shooting to lead No. 17 West Virginia to a 66-54 win over No. 22 Texas Tech on Saturday in Big 12 Conference play in Morgantown, W.Va.

The Mountaineers led by six at the half and stretched their lead to 12 points by the middle of second half, thanks to a stifling defense and a 12-2 run. Texas Tech made one more serious run, clawing within 52-46 on a 3-pointer by Avery Benson with 7:09 remaining.

West Virginia responded with a 5-0 surge to re-establish a double-digit lead and waltzed to the finish line. The Mountaineers took 35 free throws, making 23, compared with 6 of 7 for Texas Tech.

Brandon Knapper added 10 points for West Virginia (13-2, 2-1 Big 12), which captured its second consecutive game and sixth in its past seven.

Oscar Tshiebwe pulled down 17 rebounds for the Mountaineers as part of the 43-32 advantage on the glass for West Virginia. The Mountaineers' reserves outscored Texas Tech's bench players 41-15.

Davide Moretti (16 points) was the only Texas Tech player in double figures. The Red Raiders' leading scorer for the season, freshman Jahmi'us Ramsey, who came in averaging about 18 points per game, scored only eight on 3-for-14 shooting.

Texas Tech (10-5, 1-2) dropped its second straight game after a five-game win streak.

The Mountaineers outshot Texas Tech 52 percent to 36.4 percent in the first half and got nine points from McBride while building a 37-31 lead at intermission. West Virginia, which had 21 rebounds to 12 for the Red Raiders in the first half, led all but the opening minute.

Moretti had nine points in the half to lead the Red Raiders.

Moretti's 3-pointer a minute into the second half brought Texas Tech within 37-34. But then the Mountaineers took charge, reeling off 11 of the next 13 points to push the West Virginia advantage to 48-36.

During that four-minute stretch, Texas Tech was 1 for 8 from the floor and had six turnovers.
