Jared Butler sank five 3-pointers and scored 20 points in No. 18 Baylor's 78-46 rout of winless Maryland-Eastern Shore on Tuesday night at Waco, Texas.
Freddie Gillespie led the Bears (6-1) with 13 rebounds and five blocked shots. Devonte Bandoo added 14 points, Matthew Mayer had 12 points and MaCio Teague finished with 10 points.
Baylor is 62-4 at home against nonconference opponents dating to the 2012-13 season.
The Bears limited Maryland-Eastern Shore (0-10) to 26.6 percent shooting from the field and 26.3 percent (5-for-19) from 3-point range.
Entering the game, the Hawks ranked No. 349 nationally in shooting from the field (36.3 percent) and No. 309 in 3-point shooting percentage (28.8 percent).
The Hawks were led Canaan Bartley's 13 points. He was their lone scorer in double figures. Ty Gibson and Kevon Voyles each had eight points.
Baylor had 18 assists that led to its 27 field goals and outscored Maryland-Eastern Shore 19-5 on fastbreak points. Teague led the Bears with five assists, and Butler and Davion Mitchell each had four.
The Bears had a season-high 52 rebounds while outboarding Maryland-Eastern Shore by 17. That helped lead to a 30-16 advantage om points in the paint.
Baylor, which had not played since beating Villanova in the Myrtle Beach Invitational on Nov. 24, never trailed against Maryland-Eastern Shore. The Bears were never threatened after taking a 22-3 lead with 12:12 left in the first half.
After leading 38-21 at halftime, the Bears outscored the Hawks 15-5 in the first seven minutes of the second half to build a 53-26 lead.
Maryland-Eastern Shore did not come closer than 22 points thereafter.
Baylor next hosts No. 12 Arizona on Saturday. Last December, the Bears ended Arizona's 52-game home winning streak with a 58-49 win at Tucson.
Maryland-Eastern Shore hosts Clarks Summit on Sunday. It will be the Hawks' second home game of the season.
