Newcomers Jahmi'us Ramsey, a freshman guard, and TJ Holyfield, a graduate transfer forward from Stephen F. Austin, combined for 34 points to lead No. 13 Texas Tech to an 85-60 victory over Eastern Illinois on Tuesday at Lubbock, Texas, in the season-opener for both teams.

Texas Tech, which lost in overtime to Virginia in the NCAA title game in April, unveiled its first Final Four banner at United Supermarkets Arena before the game. The Red Raiders won their 48th consecutive nonconference game.

Ramsey had a game-high 19 points. He made 3 of 4 attempts from 3-point range, contributing to Texas Tech's 8-of-14 performance from beyond the arc. Holyfield scored 15 points while making 7 of 8 shots from the field. He produced six rebounds.

Davide Moretti, a junior guard who is the lone returning starter for Texas Tech, finished with 13 points thanks in part to a 3-of-4 performance from 3-point range. Terrence Shannon Jr. made 7 of 8 shots from the free-throw line to finish with 11 points.

Eastern Illinois guard George Dixon led his team with 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. His teammates shot a combined 16 of 47 (34 percent).

Texas Tech shot 55.2 percent from the field. The Red Raiders got off to a 46-31 halftime lead behind 54.8 percent shooting, including 5-for-9 accuracy from 3-point range. Ramsey had 13 of his points in the first half.

Holyfield added 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field before halftime. He helped establish dominance in the paint for the Red Raiders, who outscored Eastern Illinois 20-10 in that area by halftime.

Texas Tech outscored Eastern Illinois 40-28 in the paint and won the rebounding battle 40-30. The Red Raiders forced 15 turnovers that led to 19 points.

The Red Raiders scored the first seven points of the game and pulled away with a 10-0 run to take a 44-26 lead with 1:59 left in the first half. Holyfield and Ramsey each made a 3-pointer in that stretch.

Eastern Illinois cut the deficit to 46-34 with a 3-pointer by Mack Smith with 19:07 left in regulation. A 17-4 stretch by Texas Tech put away the game for good with the Red Raiders building a 63-38 lead with 12:27 remaining.
