Solomon Young had 14 points and Prentiss Nixon added 13 as Iowa State used a 15-0 run spanning both halves to beat visiting Southern Mississippi 73-45 on Tuesday night at Ames, Iowa.

Tyrese Haliburton recorded 12 points and nine assists for the Cyclones, who shot 44.2 percent while improving to 3-1 on the season. Up 22-20 with less than five minutes to play in the first half, Iowa State closed on an 11-0 run to take a 33-20 lead at the break. Young then scored the first four points of the second half before Southern Miss finally ended the misery on Boban Jacdonmi's bucket with 18:22 left in the game.

Jacdonmi had 10 points and eight rebounds to lead Southern Miss, which has lost three straight games -- all on the road -- after opening the season with a 90-71 victory over Delta State. The Golden Eagles, who dropped to 0-4 all time versus Iowa State, shot just 29.4 percent in the first half and 33.3 percent for the game, and missed all 16 of their 3-point attempts.

Southern Miss did not get to the foul line until only 2:47 remained in the game. The Cyclones, meanwhile, went 22 of 30 from the stripe.

Iowa State scored the first eight points of the game, but Southern Miss recorded the next six. The game remained tight for most of the first half until the Cyclones got hot in the final minutes.

Back-to-back baskets from the 6-foot-8 Young and a dunk from George Conditt highlighted Iowa State's closing 15-2 first-half run. Southern Miss went without a basket over the final 4:46 of the first half.

Iowa State used an 11-0 run midway through the second half to push its lead to 60-34. The Cyclones also went on an 11-0 run late as part of a 12-2 surge in the final minutes to further put things out of reach.

This contest is part of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament that concludes next week in the Bahamas.
