Jordan Bohannon scored 20 points, and Luka Garza added 17 points and 12 rebounds as Iowa built a big lead and made the plays it needed late in the game to defeat No. 12 Texas Tech 72-61 on Thursday in a semifinal game at the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational.

Iowa led throughout and was in front by as many as 15 points, but two free throws by Texas Tech's Terrence Shannon Jr. got the Red Raiders within 61-59 with 1:58 to play. However, a 3-pointer by CJ Fredrick after an offensive rebound pushed the advantage back to five points, and the Red Raiders never recovered.

The Hawkeyes (5-1) advance to play in the tournament final on Friday against San Diego State after the Aztecs defeated Creighton 83-52 Thursday in the late game. Texas Tech (5-1) will play the Bluejays, also on Friday.

Joe Wieskamp added 16 points for Iowa while Fredrick hit for 10 in the win. The Hawkeyes outshot Texas Tech 41.1 percent to 32.8 percent.

Chris Clarke led the Red Raiders with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and TJ Holyfield and Kyler Edwards scored 10 points each. Jahmi'us Ramsey, Texas Tech's leading scorer on the season, had just seven points on 3-of-11 shooting.

Iowa led by as many as 15 points in the first half before taking a 36-26 advantage to intermission. Wieskamp paced the Hawkeyes with 13 first-half points as he and Bohannon each sank three 3-pointers before the break. Iowa was 7 of 15 from beyond the arc while the Red Raiders were 1 of 12 prior to halftime.

Holyfield paced Texas Tech with eight points at the half.

Both teams struggled with their shooting through the first 12 minutes of the second half, with Iowa going more than four minutes without a field goal and Texas Tech missing 10 of 11 shots at a stretch of the middle of the half.
