Devon Daniels scored 23 points in a reserve role as North Carolina State took care of Alcorn State with an 87-64 victory Tuesday night in Raleigh, N.C.

The Wolfpack (4-1) were in control throughout the game in the first-ever meeting between the teams.

Markell Johnson posted a season-high 16 points, Jericole Hellems added 12 points and DJ Funderburk had 10 points for NC State, which has won four consecutive games. Johnson also supplied eight assists.

The Wolfpack shot 53.7 percent from the field while limiting the Braves (1-4) to 41.4 percent shooting.

NC State scored the game's first 11 points, and the margin grew to 32-13. Five Wolfpack players hit 3-point shots in the opening 14 minutes.

The Braves drew within 44-32 heading into halftime. Both teams made five 3-pointers in the opening half, Alcorn State doing so on seven attempts while NC State had 16 attempts.

The Wolfpack checked in at 52.9 percent from the field in the first half, with nearly half of its points coming in transition.

NC State began the second half on a 13-4 tear.

Deshaw Andrews had 17 points and Corey Tillery poured in 15 points for Alcorn State, which was coming off a 46-point loss at Memphis three days earlier.

Daniels, a transfer guard in his second season playing for the Wolfpack, had 10 points shortly after the midway mark of the first half. He has scored in double figures in every game this season.

Wolfpack forward Pat Andree has at least one 3-point basket in every game, the only NC State player with that distinction.

NC State improved to 7-0 all-time against members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Alcorn State hasn't won a nonconference game against a Division I opponent in seven years, an outcome that was vacated by the NCAA. So the last one that counted came 16 years ago.

The game was the second in four days at NC State's on-campus Reynolds Coliseum, which was the primary homecourt for the program until 20 years ago.
