Sophomore guard Erik Stevenson scored a career-high 29 points to lead No. 24 Wichita State to a 74-54 win over Ole Miss in nonconference action Saturday at Wichita, Kan.

Stevenson, who went to the locker room in the first half to be looked at for a potential arm injury, returned and made 9 of 15 shots from the field. He was 5 of 11 from 3-point range.

Jamarius Burton added 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting for the Shockers (13-1) in the American Athletic Conference/SEC Alliance game. Wichita State increased its winning streak to seven games, which includes wins over Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and VCU.

Ole Miss, which did not have a double-digit scorer until 11:14 remained in regulation, was led by 12 points each from Khadim Sy and Devontae Shuler.

A key advantage for Wichita State: The Shockers outscored Ole Miss 20-1 in points off turnovers. The Rebels (9-4) had 14 turnovers.

Stevenson nearly outscored Ole Miss in the first half with 19 points, leading the Shockers to a 39-24 halftime lead. He made 6 of 9 shots from the field and 4 of 7 from 3-point range.

The Rebels made only 7 of 25 shots in the first half with leading scorer Breein Tyree (17.1 points per game), their leader with nine points thanks to making all four of his free-throw attempts. What's more, Tyree did not score in the second half.

Wichita State outscored Ole Miss 22-6 late in the first half to build a 36-19 lead with 1:39 remaining. Stevenson had 12 points in that pivotal stretch.

Stevenson was assessed a flagrant-1 foul with 19:46 left in the second half when Blake Hinson fell under him.

Play got chippy and Ole Miss coach Kermit Davis was assessed a technical foul after Stevenson stole the ball from K.J. Buffen and converted a jumper on the other end. One of two free throws by Grant Sherfield with 17:36 left in regulation gave the Shockers a 44-28 lead.

Wichita State led by at least that margin the rest of the way.
