Jalen Smith scored a career-high 29 points, including the go-ahead basket with 14.5 seconds left, lifting No. 17 Maryland to a 77-76 win over Indiana on Sunday in Bloomington, Ind.

Down 76-72 with 1:08 left, Maryland forced an Indiana turnover on the press and got a 3-pointer from Aaron Wiggins with 55 seconds remaining to cut Indiana's lead to 76-75. After an Indiana miss, Smith worked his way inside and scored to give the Terrapins the lead.

Indiana had a chance to win the game in regulation but Trayce Jackson-Davis missed a shot close to the basket as time expired.

Smith grabbed 11 rebounds and Anthony Cowan added 18 points and four assists for the Terrapins (16-4, 6-3 Big Ten). Devonte Green scored 16 points to lead Indiana (15-5, 5-4), with Jackson-Davis adding 13 points and eight rebounds.

Indiana rallied after trailing by nine at halftime, taking a 47-46 lead on Joey Brunk's layup with 16:23 left in the second half. The Hoosiers extended their lead to 67-59 on Green's 3-pointer with 7:35 left.

Maryland got off to a torrid start from the perimeter, making nine of its first 14 3-point attempts to build an early 38-24 lead. Smith, coming off a 25-point game against Northwestern, made all three of his 3-point attempts in the first half and scored 13 points before the break.

The Hoosiers were able to hang around thanks to a strong shooting first half of their own. Indiana finished the half shooting 52 percent from the field and 66.7 percent (6 of 9) from 3-point range. Green scored seven points off the bench in the first half and Jerome Hunter added six points, helping Indiana cut Maryland's lead to 45-36 at halftime.

Indiana played the final 10:57 of the first half without Jackson-Davis, who picked up his second foul on a 3-pointer by Maryland's Ricky Lindo Jr. Lindo made the free throw to complete the rare four-point play and put the Terrapins up 28-19.
