Quinton Rose had 19 points, three assists and three steals, and Nate Pierre-Louis had eight points and 12 rebounds as Temple upset No. 16 Wichita State 65-53 on Wednesday in Philadelphia.

The result snapped the Shockers' nine-game winning streak.

Monty Scott had 11 points and five rebounds, and Jake Forrester had 11 points and two blocked shots for the Owls (10-6, 2-3 American Athletic Conference). Temple limited Wichita State to 30.2 percent shooting from the field while breaking a three-game losing streak.

Senior Jaime Echenique had career highs with 20 points and 13 rebounds, and Jamarius Burton added 16 points for the Shockers (15-2, 3-1). Wichita State's only previous loss was to West Virginia in the final of the Cancun Challenge.

Wichita State's leading scorer, Erik Stevenson, did not score, missing all eight field-goal attempts, five from 3-point range. He played only 22 minutes after picking up his second and third fouls in the first four minutes of the second half. He was averaging 14.1 points per game.

Temple has defeated at least one nationally ranked opponent in each of the past 13 seasons.

The Shockers entered the game as one of seven Division I teams with one loss or fewer.

The Owls outscored Wichita State 39-21 in the second half while holding the Shockers to 7-of-31 shooting (22.6 percent) from the field. Wichita State was 3 of 21 from 3-point range overall and missed all 10 attempts in the second half.

Pierre-Louis had four points when the Owls opened the second half on an 11-0 run to take a 37-32 lead they never lost. Forrester scored on a dunk and a layup to cap a 7-0 spurt when Owls opened a 55-45 lead with 4:26 remaining. The Shockers were never closer than six the rest of the way.

Temple shot 45.7 percent from the field and had a 39-36 rebounding edge. The Owls entered the game shooting 40.4 percent from the field, among the worst rates in Division I. They won despite committing 20 turnovers to Wichita State's 15.
