Sacar Anim scored 14 points as Marquette overcame a poor-shooting first half and thwarted an upset bid by visiting Robert Morris to record a 66-62 nonconference victory Saturday.

The Golden Eagles (3-1) stayed unbeaten at home despite an off game from preseason All-America selection Markus Howard, who was held scoreless in the first half and didn't have a point until 13:54 remained in the game. Howard finished with 11 points, well below his 24.7 points-per-game average.

Dante Treacy scored 14 points, while AJ Bramah and Sayveon McEwen added 11 points each, as Robert Morris (1-6) frustrated Marquette with a man-to-man defense that kept the game close until the Golden Eagles broke through in the second half.

The Colonials were held to 37.1-percent shooting, while Marquette recovered to shoot 42.6 percent.

Limited in the first half with two fouls, Howard didn't even take a field-goal attempt in the opening 20 minutes.

Robert Morris took a 20-19 lead into halftime as both teams were under 40-percent shooting from the field. The Golden Eagles had just four points through the first five minutes of the game.

Halftime adjustments led to a 9-0 run to open the second half for Marquette, yet Howard was not even a part of that offensive burst. He did take his first field-goal attempt during the run, a missed 3-pointer with 18:48 remaining.

Howard's first field goal came on a 3-pointer with 13:54 remaining to give Marquette a 33-29 lead. That basket came shortly before a 7-0 run midway through the second half that gave the Golden Eagles a 43-31 lead.

Brendan Bailey scored 10 points for the Golden Eagles, who rebounded from a 77-61 loss at Wisconsin on Sunday, when Howard scored 18, but went 6 of 21 from the field.

Robert Morris lost its third consecutive game, all on the road. The Colonials have played all but one of their first seven games at home and are set to play 12 of their first 15 games away from home before the start of Northeast Conference play.
