Myles Powell, the Big East Conference's Preseason Player of the Year, scored 15 of his game-high 23 points in the second half, leading the 12th-ranked Seton Hall Pirates to an 87-51 win over the visiting Florida A&M Rattlers on Saturday afternoon at Newark, N.J.

Powell, a 6-2 senior guard and a preseason All-American who averaged 23.1 points last season, shot just 3-for-11 from the floor in the first half. But, in the second half, he made 6-of-11 shots from the floor, including 2-of-5 on three-pointers.

Seton Hall (4-1) also got 14 points and a game-high five assists from point guard Quincy McKnight.

Sophomore reserve Jared Rhoden helped Seton Hall with his first career double-double - 10 points and 12 rebounds. The Pirates also got eight points, nine rebounds and three blocks from 7-2 senior center Romaro Gill.

The Rattlers, who are ineligible for the postseason in 2020 due to NCAA sanctions, fell to 0-5.

Rod Melton Jr. and Kamron Reaves led the Rattlers with 12 points each.

Rattlers sophomore guard M.J. Randolph, who was the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year last season, added 11 points, nine rebounds and three steals.

Florida A&M led just once in this game - 2-0 on a D.J. Jones jumper 81 seconds into the contest. But that was it for the Rattlers, and the Pirates, who were ahead 13-9 with 14:25 left in the first half, asserted themselves at that juncture with a 9-0 run.

By the end of the first half, Seton Hall was comfortably ahead, 36-24.

The Rattlers, though, kept hanging around, cutting their deficit to just eight points, 43-35, on Melton's half-court steal and driving layup with 16:08 left in the second half.

But, led by Powell's second-half surge, that was as close as it got for the Rattlers.
