Guard Michael Devoe recorded his second straight 22-point game, helping Georgia Tech defeat Elon 64-41 on Monday in Atlanta.

Devoe, a 6-foot-5 sophomore, hit 7 of 11 of his field-goal attempts and was 3-for-4 on 3-point tries in 29 minutes. He scored 22 points in the season opener against North Carolina State, giving him back-to-back 20-point games for the first time in his career. Each time, he matched his career high set Feb. 13 at Virginia Tech.

Georgia Tech (2-0) also got 11 points, seven rebounds and six blocks from James Banks plus nine points and nine rebounds from Evan Cole.

Elon (2-1) was led by Georgia native Marcus Sheffield, a graduate transfer from Stanford. He scored 12 points on 6-for-19 shooting and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Georgia Tech's defense shut down the young Elon lineup, which started two freshmen and a sophomore. The Phoenix shot only 21.6 percent from the field and just 10 percent (3-for-30) from 3-point range.

After a sloppy start, the Yellow Jackets took control thanks to a 13-0 run that took gave them a 17-6 lead at 6:31. Devoe had seven points in that run, including a 3-pointer off a fastbreak.

Elon responded with seven straight points, but Georgia Tech closed the half by scoring the final eight points. A fastbreak basket by Khalid Moore with nine seconds left put the Yellow Jackets ahead 25-13 at the break.

After a lethargic start to the second half, the Yellow Jackets moved safely ahead 36-16 with a 7-0 run that ended on Devoe's 3-pointer with 13:23 remaining. The Yellow Jackets led by as many as 26 in the second half.

Georgia Tech was playing without starting point guard Jose Alvarado, who missed the game with a sprained ankle after playing in the opener. Alvarado is expected to return for the Yellow Jackets' next game, Nov. 20 at Georgia.

Elon continues its three-game road trip against Power Five competition with a Friday game at Michigan and then a Nov. 20 contest at No. 6 North Carolina.
