BOXSCORE | RECAP
Georgetown 81, Mount St. Mary's 68
When: 7:00 PM ET, Wednesday, November 6, 2019
Where: Capital One Arena, Washington, District of Columbia
Officials: # Brian O'Connell, # Jeff Clark, # Justin Porterfield
Attendance: 5214

James Akinjo scored 17 of his 20 points in the second half, and Omer Yurtseven scored 10 points in a late-game 20-0 run as Georgetown rallied from 19 points down to beat Mount St. Mary's 81-68 on Wednesday night in Washington.

Georgetown won the season opener for both teams by scrambling back from a 46-27 deficit in the final 17:08 of regulation. The Hoyas scored 25 points in the first half but then exploded for 56 points in the second half to beat the Mountaineers, who fell to 0-22 all-time against Big East Conference opponents.

Mount St. Mary's initially thwarted Georgetown's offense. The Hoyas made only 9 of 30 first-half field-goal attempt. They went more than eight minutes without a made field goal and could not generate any rhythm on offense. The Mountaineers built a 12-point halftime lead and used a quick 9-2 burst to push their lead to 19 roughly three minutes into the second half.

Georgetown hit only one of its first 12 3-point shots, but the Hoyas made seven of their last nine attempts from beyond the arc. That scoring binge, led by Akinjo's second-half scoring, buried the Mountaineers.

Mount St. Mary's called timeout after a made basket with a 67-61 lead and 6:28 left in regulation. That break helped Georgetown, which scored the game's next 20 points. Yurtseven scored six of the first nine points in that run to give Georgetown a 70-67 lead with 4:40 left.

When Georgetown's Jagan Mosely hit a trey for a 73-67 advantage with 3:05 remaining, the Hoyas gained their biggest lead of the night, and they built on it from there. Mount St. Mary's did not hit a field goal in the final 6:28.

Yurtseven matched Akinjo's 20 points to lead the Hoyas in scoring. Mac McClung added 16 points.

Jalen Gibbs scored 19 points and Vado Morse scored 18 for the Mountaineers.
