MILWAUKEE -- Marquette flirted with its history book Wednesday night, nearly breaking three program records in a 90-44 rout of Western Carolina at the Bradley Center.

The Golden Eagles fell short of scoring 100 points for a third straight game for the first time in program history and also just missed breaking the previous school records for 3-pointers made and field-goal percentage, knocking down 13 while shooting 55.2 percent overall.

Andrew Rowsey hit three from distance and was 6-for-10 from the floor to finish with a team-high 21 points while Markus Howard added 17 points, including four 3-pointers. Luke Fischer finished with 15 and Jujuan Johnson had 13 for Marquette, which improved to 5-2 and remained undefeated at home this season.

Haboubacar Mutombo led the Catamounts (2-5) with 15 points while Elijah Pughsley chipped in 12. Western Carolina shot 29.8 percent and had more turnovers (18) than field goals made (14).

They opened the game with turnovers on four straight possessions.

The Golden Eagles didn't take long to find their offensive rhythm. Howard found Fischer for an open jumper that gave Marquette a 30-9 lead midway through the first period.

They shot 72 percent and made eight of 11 3-pointers in the first half to lead 56-18 at intermission.

Western Carolina missed its first five field-goal attempts of the second half, finally breaking the drought on a 3-pointer from Pughsley with 16:23 to play, making it a 64-23 game.

But they wouldn't get any closer. Rowsey made it a 40-point game on a 3-pointer with 8:50 left.
