Melo Trimble scored a season-high 29 points to help Maryland beat Richmond 88-82 in overtime Friday night in the Barclays Center Classic in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Anthony Cowan had 18 points, five rebounds and four assists for Maryland (6-0). Justin Jackson had 16 points and seven rebounds. Kevin Huerter 12 points and 10 rebounds

ShawnDre' Jones scored 23 points for Richmond (3-2). T.J. Cline had 18 points, nine assists and nine rebounds. Marshall Wood scored 15 points and Khwan Fore added 13.

Maryland will play Kansas State in Saturday?s championship game. Richmond will play Boston College in the consolation game.

Cowan made two free throws and Jackson followed with a 3-pointer to put Maryland up 75-70 in overtime. Richmond got within three on a basket by Cline, but Trimble answered with a big 3-pointer for the Terrapins.

The Spiders led 24-10 midway through the opening period after Julius Johnson made a 3-pointer to spark a 16-2 run. The Terrapins cut the deficit to 10 on a layup by Cowan and got within 10 again on a 3-pointer by Trimble late in the half, but a 3-pointer by Jones helped the Spiders carry a 38-26 advantage into the break.

Maryland stormed back after trailing by 13 early in the second half, mounting a 14-2 run to cut Richmond's lead to 43-42 on a layup by Trimble. The Terrapins tied the game moments later on a 3-pointer by Trimble and took a 53-52 lead on another long ball by Trimble.

The teams traded leads several times over the final nine minutes of regulation. A 3-pointer by Cline put Richmond up 70-69, but Jackson made a free throw with 13 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime.

Maryland shot just 40.3 percent from the field but made 22 free throws. Richmond shot 47 percent from the field but made only 11 of its 17 free-throw attempts.
