Skyler Halford added 14 points off the bench for BYU (23-8, 13-5 West Coast Conference), which won for the eighth time in nine outings in notching its first-ever victory in Spokane. The Cougars, who also received 13 points from Chase Fischer and 10 on 3-of-11 shooting from leading scorer Tyler Haws, hit 7-of-16 3-pointers and finished with a 41-39 rebound advantage, including 15-11 on the offensive glass.

Byron Wesley had 17 points and nine rebounds to pace Gonzaga (29-2, 17-1), which had won 22 straight WCC home games. Domantas Sabonis had 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench for the Bulldogs, who shot 37 percent from the field in the second half and saw leading scorers Kyle Wiltjer and Kevin Pangos finish with a combined 12 points on 5-of-23 shooting.

It was tight early in the second half, but BYU broke open a 41-40 game with a 16-7 run to take its first double-digit lead of the night at 57-47 with 10:03 remaining. The Cougars still led 69-61 with 2:52 to go before Gary Bell Jr. hit a 3-pointer and Wesley sank two free throws to pull Gonzaga within 69-66 with 50 seconds left, but Collinsworth tipped in his own missed layup and freshman Ryan Andrus sank a pair of free throws – sandwiched around four Bulldogs’ free throws – to cap the BYU upset.

The Cougars jumped out to an 11-2 lead as Gonzaga missed nine of its first 10 shots. BYU still led 34-28 late in the opening half, but an Eric McClellan 3-pointer helped the Bulldogs close the stanza with an 8-2 run to knot the contest at 36 at the break.

GAME NOTEBOOK: BYU beat a second-ranked team for the first time since downing UCLA in 1981. … Haws, who came into the contest averaging 22.3 points, had his second lowest-scoring game of the season. … Gonzaga’s starting backcourt trio of Pangos, Wesley and Bell were honored on Senior Night.
