No. 19 Maryland 68, Indiana 66: Freshman Melo Trimble and Dez Wells scored 18 points apiece as the host Terrapins gained a season split with the Hoosiers in a Big Ten thriller.

Jake Layman recorded 14 points and seven rebounds, including the go-ahead bucket with 1:01 remaining, as Maryland (20-5, 8-4 Big Ten) improved to 15-1 at home after making 5-of-6 from the free-throw line in the final 30 seconds. Jared Nickens scored six points on a pair of 3-pointers down the stretch and Evan Smotrycz contributed seven points for the Terrapins, who moved into a second-place tie in the conference with Ohio State - 2 1/2 games behind Wisconsin.

Yogi Ferrell recorded 23 points (6-for-9 from 3-point range), six assists and five rebounds for Indiana (17-8, 7-5), which fell to 4-1 in conference games decided by five or fewer points. Troy Williams recorded 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Hoosiers in a contest featuring 18 lead changes.

Layman's leaner put Maryland on top 63-61 and after Trimble made two free throws with 29.6 seconds left to extend the lead to four, Williams tipped in a putback with 22.8 seconds to play. Layman converted a pair from the line with 19.2 seconds remaining and after Ferrell buried a 3 with 14.3 seconds to play, Wells split a pair of free throws with 12.5 seconds left before Ferrell missed a 3-pointer and a circus two-point try to tie it at the buzzer.

The first half featured 12 lead changes with Ferrell recording 13 points and making all four of his 3-point attempts and Trimble scoring 11 as the Terrapins led 35-34 at the break after converting 50 percent of their two-point shots compared to 27.2 percent for Indiana. Maryland scored six straight - highlighted by Nickens' 3-pointer - to take a 57-51 lead with 5:21 left and the Hoosiers recorded the next six after Farrell banked in a 3-pointer with 3:37 left.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ferrell didn't take long to extend his school-record streak of games with a 3-pointer to 56 when he drilled a contested one in the first minute. ... The Terrapins, who lost to Indiana 79-60 on Jan. 22, wore throwback uniforms from 2002, when they defeated the Hoosiers 64-52 in the NCAA Tournament national championship game. ... Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh, who is Indiana coach Tom Crean's brother-in-law, attended the game.
