Georgia Tech 78, IPFW 69: Demarco Cox tied a career high with 15 points as the host Yellow Jackets turned away the Mastadons.

Marcus Georges-Hunt and Quinton Stephens each added 13 points for Georgia Tech (3-0) and Stephens pulled down a career-best 10 rebounds as the Yellow Jackets controlled the glass 43-26. Josh Heath set a career mark with nine points and Robert Sampson chipped in nine of his own for the Yellow Jackets, who started a season with three straight wins for the third consecutive year.

Steve Forbes tallied 17 points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds to lead the way for IPFW (2-1), which is coming off of a 25-win season a year ago that set a school record. Mo Evans added 16 points and Isaiah McCray registered nine for the Mastadons, while Joe Edwards turned in eight points and a team-high five assists.

The Yellow Jackets capped a 7-2 run with a jumper from Jackson to push their first half lead to 25-15 with just over six minutes remaining before halftime. Layups on consecutive possessions from Joe Reed and Michael Calder pulled the Mastadons to within 30-26 in the final minute before Heath wrapped up the opening 20 with a jumper to send Georgia Tech into the break with a 32-26 advantage.

The Mastadons kept it close throughout the second half, pulling within 58-57 on a 3-pointer from Reed with just under eight minutes remaining. Sampson returned fire, striking from beyond the arc on the ensuing possession to spark a 12-1 run that put the game away for the Yellow Jackets.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The win was Georgia Tech's first ever against a team from the Summit League, having fallen to IUPUI in its only other meeting with a team from the conference, in December of 2001. ... IPFW has not started a season 3-0 since 1999. ... Heath, a sophomore transfer from USF, led the Yellow Jackets with seven assists.
