Tennessee 82, Wake Forest 63: Jarnell Stokes led the way with 21 points and 10 rebounds as the Volunteers coasted past the Demon Deacons in the fifth-place game at the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas.

Freshman Darius Thompson surpassed his season total entering the contest with 16 points for Tennessee (5-2), which improved to 8-2 all-time against Wake Forest. Leading scorer Jordan McRae was limited to a season-low 10 points to round out the three Volunteers to finish in double figures.

Codi Miller-McIntyre paced the Demon Deacons (6-2) with 17 points while Travis McKie added 15. The 19-point margin of defeat was Wake Forest’s worst setback since a 25-point loss to North Carolina in February.

Tennessee trailed only twice early in the contest, but tied the game on a layup by McRae and took the lead for good with about 14 ½ minutes remaining on a 3-pointer from Thompson to spark a 9-0 run. Wake Forest answered with four straight points, but came up empty over the 4 ½ minutes as the Volunteers built a 15-point advantage.

Stokes, Antonio Barton and Jeronne Maymon scored Tennessee’s first 14 points after intermission as its 11-point halftime lead ballooned to 20 five minutes into the second half. The Volunteers led by as many as 28 on two occasions late.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Stokes posted his 22nd double-double – including one in each of his team’s three games in the Bahamas – and averaged 18 points and 11.3 rebounds at this event. … The teams combined for 50 fouls and 60 free throws. … After giving up a season-high 78 points in Thursday’s loss to Texas-El Paso, Tennessee held Xavier 29 points below its season average in Friday’s 64-49 win and Wake Forest 20 points below its season average.
