Shabazz Napier scored 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting as the Huskies edged the Hoosiers in the championship game of the 2K Sports Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Napier went 4-of-6 from 3-point range and hit the go-ahead layup with 1:35 left for Connecticut (6-0), which grabbed 12 steals. Ryan Boatright collected nine points and four steals while fighting through a 2-for-8 shooting night.

Yogi Ferrell scored 19 points to lead Indiana (5-1), which entered the game averaging 94 points and was held to a season low. Will Sheehey was the only other player to reach double figures with 12 points for the Hoosiers.

Evan Gordon capped a 13-3 burst and gave Indiana its biggest lead of the night at 51-46 with just over five minutes left before the Huskies scored the next six points, capped by Napier’s 3-pointer, to begin a string of lead changes on seven straight baskets. Napier was called for an offensive foul with 22.4 seconds left and Connecticut clinging to a 59-58 lead, but Ferrell missed a jumper with eight seconds left and could not get off a shot on one final chance.

The Huskies held a 33-26 edge after Boatright’s layup early in the second half but Sheehey knocked down a 3-pointer to spark an 8-0 run and give Indiana its first lead since the opening minutes. Connecticut was back up 43-38 with under nine minutes left when the Hoosiers made another move to get back into the game.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Indiana freshman F Noah Vonleh entered the game averaging 15.4 points and 11.8 rebounds but was held scoreless with two rebounds while battling foul trouble. … The eight players beside Napier to see action for Connecticut combined to shoot 11-for-39. … The teams combined to go 9-for-31 from 3-point range.
