No. 3 Wichita State 83, Drake 54: Tekele Cotton led the way with 21 points and seven steals as the Shockers dominated the visiting Bulldogs to remain undefeated.

Fred VanVleet collected 15 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals for Wichita State (29-0, 16-0), which clinched the regular-season crown in the Missouri Valley Conference. Darius Carter added 15 points and blocked four shots in a reserve role as part of a suffocating defense for the Shockers.

Daddy Ugbede scored 14 points and Jordan Daniels added 13 off the bench for Drake (14-14, 5-11). Aaron Hawley chipped in 10 points for the Bulldogs, who committed 20 turnovers.

Drake held a 15-14 lead after Hawley’s layup just past the midway point of the first half before going cold. Carter scored four straight points to give Wichita State the lead and the Bulldogs would not make another field goal the rest of the half to go into the break down 31-18.

The field-goal drought lasted just under 13 minutes as the Shockers opened the second half with a 14-1 burst before Hawley finally connected from beyond the arc. Nick Wiggins drained a 3-pointer with just over seven minutes left to push the lead to 69-38 as Wichita State cruised to the finish.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Shockers are the 14th team in history to begin a season 29-0 and will go for 30 at Bradley on Tuesday. … Drake dropped its fourth straight road game and is 2-5 in the last seven games. … Wichita State is bidding to become the first team to survive the regular season undefeated since St. Joseph’s in 2004.
