Akil Mitchell made all seven of his shots en route to 15 points as the Cavaliers finished strong to pick up their 11th straight win and remain in first place in the ACC.

Anthony Gill also scored 15 points in a reserve role for Virginia (23-5, 14-1), which established a school record for wins in ACC play. Malcolm Brogdon collected 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists as the Cavaliers moved 18 games above .500 for the first time since the 1982-83 season.

Pat Connaughton led Notre Dame (14-14, 5-10) with 11 points, but none of his teammates finished in double figures. The Fighting Irish shot 38.9 percent from the floor and made just 2-of-7 free throws in losing for the seventh straight time in the series.

Notre Dame erased an early 12-point deficit to forge a 30-30 halftime tie and scored the first four points of the second half to seize the lead. It was tied once again with 11 1/2 minutes to go when Virginia took charge in a dramatic way by scoring 25 consecutive points over a span of nine minutes.

Brogdon had eight points in the outburst - including a 3-pointer to cap it with three minutes left - and the Irish missed 10 straight shots. Joe Harris began the run with a triple of his own and finished with eight points for the Cavaliers, who shot a season-high 63.6 percent.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Irish coach Mike Brey remained stuck on 299 wins at Notre Dame. ... F Mike Tobey had four of Virginia's six blocked shots, compared to zero for the Irish. ... The Cavaliers, who entered leading the nation in scoring defense (55.5), have held five ACC opponents under 50 points.
