Arizona State 69, No. 3 Arizona 66 (2 OT): Jermaine Marshall hit the go-ahead floater with 15 seconds remaining and Jordan Bachynski preserved a win with a blocked shot for the second straight game as the host Sun Devils outlasted the Wildcats.

Marshall, who missed his team’s 91-68 loss at Arizona on Jan. 16 due to a groin injury, matched a career high with 29 points and scored eight straight – including back-to-back 3-pointers – in the second overtime after Arizona State (19-6, 8-4 Pac-12) fell behind 63-59 with 1:55 left. T.J. McConnell’s shot was rejected by Bachynski on the other end, leading to a dunk by Jahii Carson, and Nick Johnson’s 30-foot runner hit off the front rim as time expired.

Carson scored 15 of his 17 points after intermission while Bachynski tallied 13 points and blocked eight shots for the Sun Devils. McConnell had 17 points while Kaleb Tarczewski (13 points, career high-tying 13 rebounds) and Aaron Gordon (13 points, 10 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles for the Wildcats (23-2, 10-2), which fell to its in-state rival for the second time in eight tries.

The Wildcats held a three-point edge with just under 12 minutes left in regulation when Carson capped a 12-3 surge with six straight points to put Arizona State in front. McConnell drained a 3-pointer on the other end before both teams combined for only three free throws over the next four-plus minutes until Carson hit a step-back jumper with 3:02 to go.

Arizona tied the game at 51 with 50 seconds remaining on a breakaway layup by McConnell, but neither team got a good look on their final possessions in regulation or the first overtime. In the second extra period, McConnell answered a layup by Carson with a jumper and Gordon converted back-to-back baskets before Marshall tied the game at 65 with two 3-pointers over a 40-second span.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Bachynski, who entered Friday as the nation’s top shot blocker with 4.5 per game and turned away Joseph Young's layup at the end of last Saturday’s 74-72 victory over Oregon, has rejected 24 shots over his last three contests. … The two teams combined to miss 25 of their 56 free throws; Arizona State shot 16-of-30 from the stripe while Arizona went 15-of-26. … The Wildcats outrebounded the Sun Devils 52-36.
